May 9: Foglia

This leaf is from a mystery perennial in my garden. I planted it last summer and it never bloomed. It grew quite vigorously this spring and is now a couple of feet tall and full of buds. I have no idea what it is. I'm intrigued, though, and looking forward to solving the mystery in the coming days.

I painted the leaf with watercolor, turned it over onto watercolor paper and then weighted it with books for an hour or so. That left a faint leaf design, which I then enhanced with ink and more watercolor.

Great technique (kind of a "poor-man's monoprint) and I love the result. I'm going to have to try that sometime. Of course, in order to get something that looks as great as yours I'll have to have you do the initial painting for me . Any chance you'll be headed my direction anytime soon? ;D

lovely technique! It's very fresh and whimsical. Could it be a a leaf from a parsley plant?

Judy,
It does look a bit like flat-leaf parsley, but it's not. It's about to bloom. It occurred to me today that it might be geum.

I love this, Pretty sure it is a perennial Mum from the description and this lovely print. You will be surprised with lovely blossoms to sketch later in the year.
