Yarrow

I have a lovely yarrow plant in my garden with a very complex structure, composed of many tiny flowerettes in shades of yellow, peach and dusty pink. I tried to simplify it in this painting. I succeeded to the point that the flower has become unrecognizable.

It does not matter to me, beautiful color, gorgeous leaves, and I love that vase!

Your yarrow is really lovely and expressive, but it can be frustrating when you are trying to match what's in your mind. Sometimes its good to celebrate the surprises.

But this is still a fantastic flower painting. I love the color of the flowers and your handling of the glass.

And yet, you've captured the warmth of a summer's day...hmmm. seems to me that makes it quite a success!

I love it...

ps
Incidentally, our yarrow appears first as a red flower, then orange, then yellow--and your rendition is much nicer than trying to depict every single complex part of it--truly lovely.

Well, it's lovely whether you recognize the flower or not, girl! (I had no idea yarrow came in colors, I'm only familiar with the wild version.)

Maybe a bit of directed and controlled spatter to suggest the florets, while still keeping your beautiful, loose, flowing effect?

Just fabulous, sketches like this are why I try to paint!

I love this just as it is, and going further might just detract from the whole. If it were me, I might try a separate study zooming in on one blossom cluster. Frisket, maybe, in spots and dots, w/ color washed over?

Thank you all for your kind comments. Cathy, I appreciate the suggestion and will give splatters a try!

This is really just breathtakingly beautiful: such a lovely subject and such an immediate, fresh handling. The luminosity in the glass vase is great, as are the range of colors you get from orange through green!
