I have company coming this weekend, so I'm posting my painting for the October Virtual Sketch Date early. This is the first time I've used rough paper and I really like the granulation.
Hi Sharon. Thanks for your comment on my blog, and for the clever and generous tip. Your use of the paint's granulation is so good, with the added effect just finishing it beautifully. After looking at lots of pears, your version comes up trumps! It's really great.

Sharon, I love the textured, gritty pear-essence you've captured!

Sharon this is just lovely
These are fresh and light, your usual deft touch.
I really like it how you overlapped the left pear with the middle one.
Very clean. Very sumi-e.
This truely is lovely. Bright, clean and straight forward. Did I say how great this is?
Super work, Sharon. I admire the neatly placed and natural looking dark spots... I tried the "controlled" splash, with rather messy results.Tips?
the texture in the piece is perfect, very nice indeed.
I always love watercolor paintings of pears, but yours are exquisite. Beautiful!
Simply beautiful, Sharon--the light, the colors, the shapes of the pears. Beautifully handled!
what a nice and bright group of pears!
Brilliant, Sharon! These are absolutely perfect!!!
These are beautiful! You're right -- the rough paper really works well with the subject.
Your painting look like pears taste - cool, crisp, clean. Wonderful job!!
So nice. Colors are great.
Really beautiful and transparent. Just lovely
Nice work! I like the way you changed the composition and overlapped those two pears.

This leaps off the page, well, of my computer screen! I love it, you make it look effortless!
I've seen a lot of these pears by now, but these are in the very tip-top of the whole crop. Beautiful work!
Just beautiful, Sharon.

Wonderful colours and shape.
Gorgeous picture!

wow! they look fabulous!
Wow, the paper was perfect for the subject matter.
Theses are very nice. Love the white spots too.
what paper did you use?
Dee,
I used Arches 140 lb. rough for this, but I think I like Lanaquarelle rough watercolor paper better.
